Veteran Public Relations Director Roby Helm Rejoins NeSmith Racing Staff
(Cartersville, GA – October 10, 2017) The NeSmith Racing/Crate Racin’ USA organization is proud to announce the return of longtime Public Relations Director and Touring Division Announcer Roby Helm to its staff. Helm is set to return to his role in Public Relations and Announcing duties effective immediately, and will be back in the booth during this weekend’s NASCAR Race Weekend Double Header at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Roby Helm will be joined by current NeSmith Racing Announcer Wesley Outland to provide a unique setup for the NeSmith Racing organization as the series will incorporate both announcers into their Touring and Special event programs. Helm will cover the action from the booth, and will be joined in the booth by Outland at times, while Outland will serve as a “roving” reporter taking care of Victory Lane interviews, trackside interviews, social media updates, and fan interaction at each event.
Helm returns to the NeSmith Racing/Crate Racin’ USA family after a short stint serving in the same capacity at other stops, but felt that the fit and familiarity of his time and efforts at NeSmith Racing were where he longed to return. After conversations over the past few weeks, all the details were worked out and his reunion with the series he helped mold into “America’s Leader in Racing” was planned to roll out at the longest tenured sanctioned speedway – Talladega Short Track.
“Roby and I had a 10+ year run, and his work was integral in the structure and early growth of Crate Racin’ USA. I am glad that we were able to reconnect, and adding him to our current staff will make our fan, driver, and sponsor experience the best in the business,” stated NeSmith Racing/Crate Racin’ USA CEO and Founder Mike Vaughn. “Roby has over 37 years of experience in the business, and his knowledge and ability are almost unmatched in the industry. We are excited about staying on top of our recent expansion into other divisions and regions of the country, and Roby’s experience and expertise will complement our motto to be “America’s Leader in Racing”.
Helm said the decision to return to NeSmith Racing/Crate Racin’ USA was an easy one, as he had spent just about 1/3 of his career in motorsports with the series and had developed some wonderful relationships with his co-workers, competitors, track personnel and series sponsors.
“When Mike Vaughn called me about returning to NeSmith Racing, we talked like a couple of old friends, and I think our time apart was healthy because we were able to establish a greater respect for what we had done working together in building the series over 11 years from scratch,” Helm said. “It wasn’t just me and Mike, but it was the people around us, past present and future that has made NeSmith Racing what it is today. The series has a great group of officials, competitors, track operators and sponsors. Mike wants the series to grow and he has asked me to help him and his staff make it happen. I look forward to working with Wesley Outland because this young man does so many things well, as he has grown into the Social Media era of the sport. I hope he can learn a few old school promotional and announcing tricks from me that will be beneficial in his career, and hopefully I can learn some new technology from Wesley. I look forward to seeing a lot of friends this weekend at Talladega Short Track that I haven’t seen in a while I’m ready to hit the ground running.”
