Oglethorpe Speedway Park and Cochran Motor Speedway September 8th and 9th Postponed By Hurricane Irma

(Cartersville, GA – September 6, 2017)   NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series officials have decided to POSTPONE this weekend’s events scheduled for Friday September 8th at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, GA and Saturday night September 9th at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA. With the threat of Hurricane Irma bearing down on the state of Florida and southeast Georgia, officials have decided that the travel limitations that will be in place and the evacuation efforts for those residents superseded the weekend racing events.

Oglethorpe Speedway Park officials were faced with evacuations in their immediate area that could take place as early as Friday forcing their decision to postpone the event. Cochran Motor Speedway officials have requested that everyone stay tuned to their social media outlets regarding their racing plans for the weekend without the NeSmith Touring Series.

“We have monitored the forecasts in the last few days and the track of Hurricane Irma appears to have a direct impact on the folks in and around South Georgia and in the state of Florida. Our thoughts and prayers are with those that will be affected by this monster storm. We felt it was morally the wrong thing to do to try and get into town and promote an event, when everyone’s concerns should be their safety,” stated NeSmith Racing CEO/Found Mike Vaughn. “There are already cases of gas/fuel shortages, hotels needed for evacuees, and supply demands, and our presence would only further strain those resources and take folks away from their necessary duties to prepare.”

Oglethorpe Speedway Park and NeSmith Racing officials have RESCHEDULED their events to take place during the 20th Annual “Showdown on the Coast” on October 5th-7th. The weekend will kick off with Open Practice on Thursday October 5th; Friday October 6th will feature a Full $2,000 to win Racing Program; Followed by a $3,000 to win event on Saturday October 7th.
