Millington Sweeps the Twins

(Newton, NC - April 30, 2018)   Wonderful weather and action packed racing would be on the docket for the Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton Night, PLLC at the Races at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Leading off the evening would be the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Models for the first of two 40 lap features. Ryan Repko in the #14 would take the pole position with Austin McDaniel in the #12 to his outside while Ryan Millington in the #17 and Craig Moore in the #1 would make up row two. Repko and McDaniel would battle side by side for the top spot for several laps with Repko eventually moving to the first position. With McDaniel moved up to the high line and Millington would move into second. Repko would look to have the race in hand but Millington would start methodically tracking him down and with five laps to go the defending track champion would work his way under Repko. At the checkered flag Millington would nose ahead for the win. Repko would finish 2nd while McDaniel would gain ground on the lead duo but settle for 3rd. Ty Gibbs in the #18 and Justin Carroll in the # 57 would round out the top 5.

Next up would see the Carolina Custom Golf Carts 4-Cylinders roll onto the track for 25 laps of action. Dennis Ward in the #25 would set the fast time and lead the field to the green flag with Randy Canipe in the #09 to his outside. The front pair would battle for the top spot with Ward moving to the front. Ward would lead until problems would cause him to spin on the front stretch and put him in the pits. The #6 of Brian Mundy and the #29 of Allison Houston would both give chase to the leader. Mundy would move around for the top spot bringing Houston with him to second. When the checkered flag would fall it would find Mundy as the winner and headed to his first victory lane celebration as a driver. Houston would challenge over the closing laps but would have to settle for 2nd along with Canipe finishing 3rd. Cody Combs in the #9 and Dennis Trivette in the #28 would grab 4th and 5th.

The Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models would hit the track next for 50 laps and Round #3 of the Paramount Kia 'Big 10' Racing Challenge. Pat Rachels in the #34 would pace the field to the green flag with Tyler Gregory in the #7 starting to his outside. The action would be furious and non-stop as Rachels, Gregory, the #4 of Dylon Wilson, and the entire 23 car field would mix it up in their quest for the top spot. Gregory would move around Rachels for the top spot and look as if he would have the race in hand when contact with a slower car would send Gregory into the outside wall and ruin his chances of a victory. Rachels would take the opportunity and move to the point with just five laps to go. The #1 of Brody Pope would give Rachels a handful as he would challenge for top spot. Rachels would hold off the challenger and grab the victory with Pope, in his first Hickory Motor Speedway start, finishing 2nd. Taylor Gray in the #15 would finish 3rd, Taylor Nesbitt in the #92 would come home 4th, while Brandon Lemke in the #22 would grab 5th.

Hitting the track next would be the Cosmo Motors Street Stocks for their 30 lap slugfest. The #18 of Troy DeMarmels would start from the top spot with Kevin Eby in the #03 would start to his outside. DeMarmels would move to the top spot but Eby would try repeatedly to put the pressure on to make the pass. DeMarmels would hang on to grab his first victory at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars while Eby would finish 2nd. The #64 of Marshall Sutton would take the 3rd spot after a spirited battle with Jared Broadbent in the #74. Broadbent would finish 4th with Mark Whitten in the #77 finishing 5th.

The One Design Super Trucks would roll off next for another hard fought 35 lap battle. Dakota Slagle in the #13 and Allen Huffman in the #51 would make up the front row starting positions. Huffman would grab the early lead with Slagle close behind. Before the end of the race 5, that’s right 5 different leaders would move to the top spot in the 35 lap affair, but Slagle would prove too strong and grab the victory, despite having to restart once from the rear of the field. Sheflon Clay in the #15 would finish in the runner-up position with Huffman coming home in 3rd. Zach Hale in the #97 and Josh Stark in the #39 would round out the top 5.

Closing out the night would see the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Models fire up for the second 40 lap feature of their double header. After a nine car invert from the finishing order of race number one Jacob Heafner in the #95 would start the second 40 lap feature from the point with Craig Moore in the #1 just to his outside. Heafner would jump to the early lead and pace the field with Moore making repeated attempts at the top spot. First race winner, Ryan Millington in the #17, would make a methodical charge through the field with the #12 of Austin McDaniel close behind, with both drivers looking for the winner’s trophy. Lap 28 would see Millington d reach Heafner and begin to pressure him. After a battle for the lead Heafner would make a crossover move on Millington and make his bid to take back the lead. Millington would eventually power ahead to the lead in his quest to double up on the night's races. McDaniel would make his move around a Heafner and give chase to the leader. Millington would prove too strong on the night and grab the victory, sweeping the pair of 40 lap features. McDaniel would finish close behind in 2nd with Heafner in his tracks for 3rd. Justin Carroll in the #57 would grab the 4th finishing position while Allen Gordon in the #15 would finish out the night with a top 5 finish in 5th.
