Kaz Grala Charges Forward for a Third Place Finish in the United Site Services 70 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
KAZ GRALA CHARGES FORWARD FOR A THIRD PLACE FINISH IN THE UNITED SITE SERVICES 70 AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
(LOUDON, NH - July 18, 2015) - Competing at home is an exciting thing for any young racer, and New England native Kaz Grala didn't disappoint. The 16 year-old powered his way to a second consecutive third place finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East United Site Service 70 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Grala turned in a top-10 qualifying effort placing his No. 3 Kiklos Toyota Camry in sixth position for the 70-lap event. Grala wasted no time moving his way to fourth position in the opening laps and remained there until the first caution on Lap 50.
On the restart, Grala rolled the outside lane in what has become a signature move of late, quickly claiming the third position and completing one lap before another yellow flag was displayed to set up a thrilling 10 lap shootout.
On the race's final restart, Grala would find himself in the middle of a three wide race for second position and was momentarily shuffled to fourth position in an effort to avoid contact. Again the Boston native used the outside lane to his advantage reclaiming the third position where he would hold off a hard charge from Nick Drake in the final laps.
"My team gave me an excellent car all weekend," said Grala. "It was a great run for myself and Ben Kennedy Racing. I'm stoked to be able to post a top-three finish in front of all our friends, family, and local sponsors."
"Two spots better would have been great, but I think William and Scott had a little more speed than we did. We'll come back and try to get that win next year at the home race. We are definitely getting closer and closer and we're in great shape going to Iowa."
For Grala, a second third place finish in a row couldn't have come at a better venue. Grala hosted guests from Kiklos, NETTTS, and OzLINK before the event at a private barbeque, and then rewarded them with a stellar performance at their home track.
"This sport is driven by great partners and I've been fortunate enough to have Kiklos on the car all year and it was great having NETTTS and OzLINK join our team in a larger capacity for this race. I was able to go out to the Toyota Fan Zone this morning and hang out with with fans at the NETTTS display which we'll hopefully be back doing again in 12 months."
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will be back in action July 31 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA. After having one of the fastest cars when the series made their first stop at the 7/8-mile oval, Grala was beaming with confidence when asked about a return to the Hawkeye State.
"We had an extremely fast Camry in May," said Grala. "We also had a season's worth of bad luck in one race so hopefully when we get back there in two weeks we'll be challenging for the win."
With another third place finish, Grala has moved to eight place in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings with six races remaining in the 2015 season.
The United Site Services 70 will be broadcast in tape-delayed format on NBC Sports Network on Thursday July 23 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
