DOUG COBY LOOKS TO ADD ANOTHER STAFFORD WIN TO HIS RESUME

(MILFORD, CT - August 4, 2021) -- Doug Coby is set to return to Stafford Motor Speedway this Friday, August 6, as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour invades the half-mile for the eighth race of the season. Coby, a former multiple-time track champion, who is 18th on the all-time track wins list, has 12 of those wins in Whelen Modified Tour competition, and would love to add a lucky 13 in his return to his home track.

Back in April, Coby finished 12th in the NAPA Spring Sizzler, but the finish didn’t showcase the speed that the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine had that night. Coby was running inside the top-five late when contact between the leaders collected the six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion, forcing him to a finish outside the top-10.

However, in June, Coby scored arguably the biggest win of his career at Stafford in the inaugural Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event, besting names like Tony Stewart, Bill Elliott and Helio Castroneves. He’s excited to get back to the home track feel and chase the victory in the 30th annual GAF Roofing 150 this Friday night.

Coby will enter the race ninth in the series championship standings, 73 points back from the lead, after missing Oswego Speedway to compete with SRX at Stafford, and also having a motor failure at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It appears Coby will need some help to chase a seventh title this season, but he isn’t giving up the quest quite yet.

“Generally speaking I feel like when we were at the Spring Sizzler in April we had a car that could have won the race,” Coby said. “We’re going back there with the same car and the same setup, with the motor back from New Hampshire that is fresh and ready to go.”

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice will roll from 3:45-4:45 p.m., with Mayhew Tools qualifying set for 6:20 p.m. The green flag for the 30th annual GAF Roofing 150 is set to drop around 9:15 p.m., and will air live on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold. Drivers will also take part in an autograph session in the grandstand area at 7 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the track for anyone who would like to head to the track to see the race in person.
