DOUG COBY LOOKS FOR FIFTH CAREER NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY WIN IN WHELEN 100

(MILFORD, CT - July 14, 2021) -- The last time the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was on the track, Doug Coby drove the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine into Victory Lane at Riverhead Raceway on Sunday, June 20. Now -- nearly a month later -- the Whelen Modified Tour will return to the track for the seventh race of the season -- marking the halfway point in the 14-race schedule -- and Coby and his closest challengers are headed to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 17.

The 1.058-mile oval will play host to the Whelen 100 -- one of the most anticipated events on the series schedule each year. New Hampshire, nicknamed the ‘Magic Mile’, produces some of the most exciting action in Modified racing -- with drafting, tight packs and thrilling finishes. Coby enters the race fourth in the championship standings, 41 points from leader Patrick Emerling, after missing the June 12 event at Oswego Speedway in order to win the inaugural SRX race at Stafford Motor Speedway.

The Milford, Connecticut, six-time champion is hoping New Hampshire will produce another win -- but more importantly -- a continued climb up in the standings in chase of a historic seventh title.

“We’re just going to go try and win Loudon,” Coby said. ”From here out, for the rest of the season, we’re in max points mode… we want to lead laps and get as close to 48 points (maximum) in each race as we can. Whatever happens with the other drivers will happen. Loudon is tough. Anything can happen right down until the last corner. You could be in the top-five going into the last corner and end up outside the top-20. We’re really happy with our shock and spring package right now and we’re looking forward to having a better run at Loudon compared to the last time we went there.”

In 34 previous starts at New Hampshire, Coby has four victories -- coming in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. Three of those four victories came in the heat of a championship season.

The schedule for Saturday’s Whelen 100 will be a tight one, with a limited amount of time in between practice, qualifying and the race. Practice is set to roll from 10-11 a.m., with Mayhew Tools pole qualifying set for 11:30 a.m. The green flag for the Whelen 100 will fly at 12:45 p.m., live on NBC Sports Gold through TrackPass. The race will also air via tape delay on NBCSN on a later date.
