DOUG COBY FINISHES SECOND IN NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR ACTION AT JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY

(JENNERSTOWN, PA - May 29, 2021). -- Doug Coby nearly made it two consecutive NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victories on Saturday evening at Jennerstown Speedway, but came up just short in the Jennerstown Salutes 150 presented by DGV, finishing second.

Coby crossed the line a mere .112 seconds behind race winner Justin Bonsignore after giving him a run for the money on the final lap. Driving the Mayhew Tools No. 10, Coby qualified second in Mayhew Tools qualifying, ran inside the top-five for the duration of the race, and was on the bumper of Bonsignore for the entire final lap, before taking a look to the outside in turn three and drag-racing him to the line.

Off a victory at Riverhead Raceway on May 15, a second-place effort at Jennerstown kept the momentum rolling for the entire Mayhew Tools team. During the race, Coby carried the name of Air Force Master Sergeant John Chapman, who was killed in 2002 in Afghanistan, on his roof. It was a special finish to a Memorial Day weekend of racing that was filled with honoring those who were lost in war defending their country. Honoring countless fallen heroes came as part of a partnership between NASCAR, JDV Productions and Operation Vet NOW Inc. (OVN), at Jennerstown.

“If Justin would have wiggled up the track on the last lap I think I would have probably gotten by him pretty easily. I tried the outside, but he recovered enough,” Coby said. “I wasn’t expecting to catch him that quickly at the end. We could have won tonight, and I feel like three out of the first four we could have won. We left Martinsville and going to these last three races, we feel like we are back where we need to be, qualifying and racing up front at every different track.”

Next up for Doug Coby will be competition in the inaugural SRX Series event at Stafford Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 12. Coby will be competing with the likes of Tony Stewart, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, Marco Andretti and more at his home track in the debut of the series that will air on CBS.
