Billy Moyer Conquers FALS for 98th Career Summer Nationals Win; Second in Points!
(BATESVILLE, AR – June 28, 2018) In a week marred by rain, a relatively dry stretch of weather from June 22-25 allowed Billy Moyer to compete in four UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals battles in the states of Illinois and Indiana. The highlight of the four-day stretch came Saturday night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois where Billy claimed his 98th career "Hell Tour" triumph. Billy knocked down the fifth quickest time in Group A during qualifying before placing third in his stacked heat race. "Mr. Smooth" then rolled off from the inside of the fifth row in the 50-lap main event and drove towards the front to eventually wrestle away the lead for good on lap 35. Billy then led the remainder of the feature distance to pocket the $10,000 payday ahead of Brian Shirley, Shannon Babb, Chris Simpson, and Timothy Culp!
Another strong run awaited the #21 team on Sunday evening at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana. With strong thunderstorms bearing down on the southwestern Indiana facility, heat races were scrapped so Billy's third quickest lap in his group during qualifying locked him into the inside of the fifth row for the start of the $5,000 to win headliner. During the course of the 40-lapper, the Batesville, Arkansas superstar drove past six competitors and wound up on the podium with a third place effort behind only victor Shannon Babb and runner-up Tyler Erb.
Other finishes for the week were a fifteenth place showing last Friday night in an attrition-filled $10,000 to win race at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and a twelfth place showing on Monday evening in a $5,000 to win makeup show at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Illinois. Billy currently sits second in the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings behind leader Shannon Babb. A pair of $10,000 to win clashes with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will then be held on Friday at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Indiana and on Saturday at Federated Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri. The "Challenge Week" on the "Hell Tour" will then wrap up on Sunday, July 1 with a stop at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois where a $5,000 paycheck will be on the line.
