Billy Moyer Captures Another Baltes Classic Title; Eyes Seventh Globe Trophy!
(BATESVILLE, AR – September 5, 2018) Billy Moyer, of Batesville, Arkansas, racked up his fourth 'Baltes Classic' title on Sunday evening, September 2 on the hallowed high-banks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio! Billy timed in third quickest in his group during American Late Model Series (ALMS) qualifying prior to scoring the victory in his heat race. After starting the 30-lap main event from the pole position, Billy led most of the feature distance before swapping the top spot a couple of times late with Nick Hoffman in lapped traffic. At the checkers, Billy was able to stave off Hoffman, Matt Miller, Rusty Schlenk, and Chad Finley to score the $5,000 payday. The popular driver known as "Mr. Smooth" now has eight victories to his credit in 2018 and has amassed 834 wins on his impressive career resume!
Earlier in the weekend, the #21 team was in action at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. On Thursday at Granite City, Billy finished second in his heat race, but later pulled off the racing surface early in the $2,000 to win feature event due to track conditions and placed twelfth in the final finishing order. At Farmer City on Friday night in a $5,000 to win ALMS contest, Billy set Fast Time in qualifying, won his heat race, and later led the first 34 circuits in the 35-lapper. Unfortunately, he was passed by eventual winner Shannon Babb on the final lap and was forced to settle for a strong runner-up performance. "Everyone knows what Earl (Baltes) did for our sport, so winning a race that memorializes him is a cool deal," exclaimed Moyer following Sunday's victory. "It makes me proud to come up here to Eldora and win one more. It was a real good race there with (Nick) Hoffman at the end and fortunately we were able to come out on top. Hopefully, some notes and things we learned will translate over to the World 100 weekend, but you never know what kind of racetrack you are going to get there. We sure didn't expect as much moisture in the track as we got on Sunday, but we made the right adjustments and got the job done!"
Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) will now make a return trip to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio from September 6-8 for the 48th edition of the fabled 'World 100.' A complete preliminary show highlighted by a pair of Twin 25s will be held on both Thursday and Friday at the "Big E," as drivers will gun for the $10,000 payday in each of those four 25-lap sprints. Combined points from those two prelim nights will set the lineup for Saturday's traditional six heat races.
Following the heat races on Saturday at the 1/2-mile speedplant, two consolation races will finalize the starting field for the 48th Annual 'World 100.' A huge crowd is expected to file into Eldora Speedway to witness the 100-lap crown jewel spectacular, which is set to pay a hefty $51,000 to the winner. Billy has transferred into twenty-five 'World 100' headliners throughout his illustrious career and is the only six-time winner of the event, as he found victory lane in the "Granddaddy Of Them All" in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2000, and 2010.
