Myron Piatek Wins at Autometer Northern Class Nationals
(Columbus, OH – September 1, 2015) With no time for track testing a new engine, Myron Piatek took his Locomotion Dodge Dart to the Autometer Northern Class Nationals in Columbus, Ohio Augst 21 - 23 with his fingers crossed. First practice/qualifying run was disappointing considering that the next round would be individual class eliminations. His class in Stock, J/CM, had a fast Mustang from Canada in attendance. Luckily, a little carburetor tuning was all that was needed to perk up the fresh engine combination and the results were a win.
Despite great weather, car count was down from the previous year, with well over 150 cars total. Around 1/2 were in Stock and the balance made up in Super Stock and Nostalgia Super stock. But that forced a schedule change which kept Piatek out of the Combo/Warm-Up race because both were run on the same day, Saturday.
Competition was tight all day with the closest being a 2nd round win by .0028 of a second. Piatek made it to the 5th round of eliminations, 1/4 finalist, with 6 cars left, losing to the eventual runner-up George Yago in a new factory COPO Camaro factory race car.
Overall, it was a good weekend.
The last divisional races of the season to qualify for the Tournament Of Champions World Finals in Memphis, TN are this weekend. With the new engine proving itself in Columbus, Piatek hopes it will help him maintain his lead in Division 2 (Southeast) points.
Final events for 2015 points in Jackson, SC at the Carolina Dragway, Sept 3 – 6, 2015.
